Timing a sunset cruise
Sunset in Charleston ranges from a little after 5pm in early December to around 8:30pm in late June. Most sunset trips leave about 90 minutes before sunset, so you have time to get out on the water, watch the light change, and head back as the city lights come on.
Where to watch from
From the harbor, you get the downtown skyline, the church steeples and the Battery in silhouette. Heading toward Mount Pleasant, the Ravenel Bridge catches the last light and lights up after dark. From Folly Beach, sunset over the Folly River marsh is quieter and more natural.
Coming back after dark
Returning after sunset is normal, and captains run navigation lights. Bring a layer. Even in summer, the breeze on the water gets cooler once the sun drops.

- Sunset slots are the most requested time of day, especially in summer.
- Shorter sunset trips can cost less than a full afternoon.
